We being human beings worry half of our lives. We are worried about food, shelter, finances, education, the upbringing of our children, and whatnot. We basically spend our lives under the infinite road of worries and at each stop, we pick up one more passenger of worry. But why do we worry a lot?
Well, according to my viewpoint and experience, we are most worried about the future. What is going to happen? How I will survive it? How am I going to pass through if any calamity hits me? Our life is composed of What, Why, How, Where, and so on continues flow of worries of the future and sometimes the past too. The worries of the past sometimes haunt us, why it happened to me? How can it happen to me?
The crux of all these worries, concerns and restlessness is our weak belief in the plan of Allah. We totally and with heart accept and claim Allah SWT to be our god and creator but when it comes to the calamities or worries of life, we start thinking as if we are here on our own. As if our life is controlled by ourselves and there is no one leading our lives.
This is where we are letting our worries control us. They shape us into the person who is opposite to our real self. The worries, doubts, concerns, depression, and stress truly got into us and makes as an alien who is no longer recognizable to our own selves. Without thinking about the love of Allah and how our life revolves around his attributes of AL-RAHMAN (The Merciful) and AL-MUHAYMIN (The Preserver of Safety), we start doubting our self and our lives.
If we start accepting the fact that we are not the controller of our life, we cannot control the falling leaf, we don’t control the wind blowing outside, we do not control the drops of rain falling from the sky. We cannot control the moment of happiness to last a little longer nor we can control the moment of grief to pass away quickly. So, in short, we cannot control anything in our life.
But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you, and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.
Al-Baqarah 2:216
The key to living a peaceful life that is free of worries and depression is to trust Allah and his plan. If you are stuck with something which is unlikely of you and is really unexpected, say Alhamdulillah. You are not aware of the lesson that particular hardship is going to teach you. You are not aware if you kept on following that path, later on, it was going to lead you in the pit of darkness so hollow and deep that once you are there, there is no way back.
He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of your affairs.
Al-Muzzammil: 73:9
Trust Allah and you will see your life taking the swings of hope, happiness, and steadfastness. Accept the hardship and think of it as Allah’s way of protecting you. Say Alhamdulillah for Allah has saved you from something bad which was about to happen.
